Messages, channels and Secret chat
Who can read what, ticks, unread badges and notifications.
Direct messages
A direct message is private to the two of you. Nobody else in the workspace — including admins — can read it in the app. Messages are encrypted in transit and at rest and are stored in India, and they follow you to every phone, computer and browser you sign in on.
Secret chat
Turn on Secret chat when you start a new message for an end-to-end encrypted conversation: it is sealed on your phone and only the two phones can open it — not Reimbilly, not your company. The trade-off is that a secret chat lives on the phone it was used on: a new phone, a reinstall or the web cannot open older secret messages.
Channels
Channels are for a team or a trip. Everyone in the workspace is in #general. Channel messages are visible to the channel’s members and readable by the workspace that owns them, which is what you want for a company record. Join any channel in your workspace from Messages.
Ticks and badges
| You see | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 🕓 | Sending. |
| ✓ | Stored — it will reach them. |
| ✓✓ | Reached their phone or browser. |
| Blue ✓✓ | They have opened the conversation. |
| Not sent · Tap to retry | It did not reach us. Tap to send it again. |
A dot on the Messages icon means something new arrived; each conversation shows how many. With notifications allowed on your phone you also get a push for each new message.
